Cierra Smith is a digital communications strategist with over four years of experience in congressional, media, and corporate communications.

At Precision, Cierra works with a range of clients including the California Surgeon General, Dr. Nadine Burke Harris on proactive and reactive communications plans. She regularly helps manage creative ideation, strategy, content creation, and copywriting. She also supports the digital team with general project management and assists with rapid response to relevant news events. She has developed a colorful portfolio while working with clients across diverse industries, from improving reputations in the financial, nonprofit, and sustainability sectors to rebranding a statewide public health office and developing advocacy strategies to drive action on innovative public health solutions.

Before joining Precision, Cierra served as the digital manager and assistant press secretary for Assistant Speaker Katherine Clark in the U.S. House of Representatives. In this newly created role, she was responsible for developing the Congresswoman’s digital presence, executing communication rollouts including creative digital ideation and strategy for policy related news as well as for managing traditional press outreach for leadership press-hits. During COVID-19, Cierra helped transition the team fully online while supervising all digital events and updates from House leadership. Additionally, she worked for the 2020 digital inauguration team creating graphics and posting to engage communities online.

Prior to her time on Capitol Hill, Cierra worked for CNN and NowThis, a global digital media company, where she played an instrumental role in turning over timely and impactful top trending videos surrounding the topics of civil rights, reproductive rights, climate change, breaking news, education reform, investing in impoverished communities, criminal justice reform, affordable housing, and agriculture. This afforded her the opportunity to develop her love for both entertaining and impactful global content and the strategy that transforms a simple campaign into an engaging movement.

A Harlem native, she graduated cum laude from Syracuse University’s S.I. Newhouse School of Communications with a bachelor’s degree in broadcast and digital journalism and was named an emerging young journalist by the National Association of Black Journalism.
